Project Perfection: Part One

Me!

Hello fellow bloggers, I will be documenting the project I'm going to pursue for my A2 Art Coursework portfolio.

In my summer notebook, I mainly used it to take notes on the London trip in early July and also to record contextual artists I would like to look at. I didn't create any work over summer as I wasn't 100% sure I was going to carry on at college let alone Art A2. When I did come back to college, I bought a square sketchbook as the one I made in the summer term was too small.

Arnulf Rainer's Work
Gerhard Richter's Work
I started my project by studying two surrealistic abstract artists, Gerhard Richter and Arnulf Rainer.

The fact they distort photographs with different media and mediums intrigued me and made me wonder what I could do to my own images.
Most of their art evolve around self image and incorporating layers.

Barbara Kruger's Work
John Stezaker's Work

I then went on to look at John Stezaker and Barbara Kruger, both visual conceptual artists who include a lot of collage in their work. I love the way Stezaker re-discovers old, past time photos and merges them together to portray a different perception years after it was originally created.

Barbara Kruger is, I’d say, going to be one of my favourites I will study during the year, as she leads into my future plans of expressing self image in the eyes of celebrities and royals- how ‘perfection’ is perceived by youth through the media.

Tracey Emin Artwork
Francesca Woodman Photogrphy

Then, I really would like to go onto look at photographers such as Francesca Woodman and Tracey Emin and also campaigns such as Dove.

So far, I've recreated my own collage/re-assembled photos in the styles of my contextual I’ve studied so far, thinking of adding some mixed media to some examples. I’ve also done the drawing tasks in class, and would like to explore pen/ink drawings perhaps and definitely create photo shoots and use Photoshop. Hopefully, as I progress with my project, I’ll start to look at fashion and its effect on people too.
